The Transport Sector Challenge

Hydrogen — alternative energy source
Governments across the Western world are now setting stringent net zero targets for emissions that will not be met without alternative energy sources to fossil fuels.
The UK transportation sector must comply. It must align itself with the rest of the world in global decarbonisation.
Refuelling infrastructure needs
Many other countries are leading the way and despite the universal growing demand for Hydrogen, there is a widening gap between demand and the supply of Hydrogen refuelling infrastructures, particularly in the UK compared to the EU.

in 2021 there were only 11 HRS in the UK, but over 200 HRS in Europe

The use of Ammonia can meet these needs
It is a carbon free fuel and is the most efficient carrier of Hydrogen – transportation is cheaper, easier and the safety case is well established. SPL is looking at how it can be the supplier of Green Ammonia needed for its future installations for Airports and transportation.
Electrolysis and batteries are part of the answer, but they won’t meet the sustained high energy demands needed, particularly in the transport sector.
